About Mike

Mike J., aka HeyYoMike, is a primarily self-taught artist currently residing in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. He has made art since he was a small child. He doesn’t pretend to understand it or use fractal patterns when he creates it. In fact, his mathematical skill is far worse than his artistic skill. His art has no meaning and he knows no large words or creative ways to make it sound as if it does.

Mike J. has no preferred choice of media. He will draw with anything and can draw inspiration from almost anything. He is influenced by too many people to name. His artistic direction and interests change almost daily, but something that is ever-present is his desire to create art and to have fun while doing it.

Mike J. divides his time between his family, his day job, and his art. He has designed plush toys professionally for Toy Vault, INC, working on their Here Be Nightmares, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and The Dark Crystal lines. Mike J. has participated in group art shows all over the country. His writing and artwork has been featured in Story The Magazine. His list of clients include The Toy Chest Children’s Charity based in Lexington, KY, 670 The Score host Julie DiCaro, and actor/comedian George Lopez. Mike J. provided color assists for Jim Mahfood’s GRRL SCOUTS: MAGIC SOCKS mini-series published by Image Comics we well as Bleed Leaders by Justin Stewart and J. Ward. He also served as colorist for Basketball Lawyers by Mark Hughes and J. Ward. Mike J. is continuously working on independent projects as well as commissioned pieces.
